11/07/2023The Weaving of Somatics and Gender
13/07/2023I hope you're ready for an intriguing discussion that I believe will resonate with you. Would you be interested in exploring the profound influence of queerness as a value that might guide your gender?
Rooting into our values of gender queerness can anchor us within our authentic selves, providing a shield against overwhelm and shutdown. Gender queerness has great potentiality as an antithesis to the masters tools, empowering us to re-imagine a world not driven by sex discrimination and expectations of conformity.
We might think of queerness as a pair of glasses we put on which allow us to notice and name societal norms and expectations that enforce heteronormativity and cis-normativity. This awareness, this practice of queer thinking, it is a form of resistance that rejects the notion of a fixed, essentialist understanding of these aspects of human experience, emphasizing that they are socially constructed and subject to change over time.
To feel queer is to know you possess an embodied desire that will challenge and disrupt normative assumptions. To be queer invites critical analysis and produces a re-imagining of existing structures of power and privilege related to gender and sexuality.
I challenge the notion of confining queerness within the alphabet. After all, queerness inherently resists categorization and identification, so why should we restrict it within the boundaries of a check box (with exception for the needs of statistical data collection)? To embrace queerness is to declare that you don't have to color inside the lines. In fact, those lines are merely constructs used to support oppression. They don't actually exist, though the consequences of their transgression do.

To not be cis gendered is to take up the political action of gendering queerly. Gender queerness transcends limitations and embraces everyone, irrespective of the visibility of their gender diversity. It is a dynamic concept that defies containment!
Now, let's delve into the true magick that unfolds when we combine queerness with somatics. This powerful synergy enables us to remain present with the trouble of sexism and transphobia, and to build resilience amidst systemic harm. It helps us get back in touch with who we truly are, especially when we are wandering with purpose across a galaxy of gendering potentiality. Building our capacity to remain present and engaged is what allows us to support this cultural transition with solidity.
